Library Access
Library Access lets trusted devices connect to the desktop app over a private network.
Enable Library Access
Section titled “Enable Library Access”- Open Settings → Network → Library Access.
- Enable Remote Access.
- Enable at least one of LAN or Tailscale.
- Wait until the access state becomes Available.
- Change the device name and save it if needed.
The account menu in the lower-left corner also provides a Remote shortcut and a Connect Mobile entry. After Remote Access is disabled, paired devices can no longer connect; the desktop app’s local Library is unaffected.
LAN connections
Section titled “LAN connections”LAN is suitable for devices on the same trusted home or office network. The default port is 43127. Connections use TLS, and local-network service discovery helps clients find XiaDown.
- Enable it only on a private network you trust.
- The connecting device and desktop app must be able to reach each other on the LAN.
- The first time it is enabled on Windows, you may need to allow XiaDown through the private-network firewall.
- After changing the port, save the settings and wait for the state to return to Available.
Tailscale connections
Section titled “Tailscale connections”Tailscale is suitable for connecting devices in the same tailnet when they are not on the same LAN. XiaDown uses HTTPS port 443 and service path /xiadown by default.
Before use, confirm that Tailscale is installed and signed in on the desktop app’s computer and that Tailscale Serve is enabled. XiaDown provides access only within the private tailnet and does not use Funnel to publish the Library to the public internet.
If the state says Not Installed or Unavailable, confirm that Tailscale is running, the account is signed in, and Serve is available, then return to XiaDown and refresh the state.
Pair a device
Section titled “Pair a device”After at least one connection method is available:
- Click Pair Device, or open Connect Mobile from the account menu.
- Click New Pairing.
- Scan the QR code on a trusted device, or copy the pairing link and open it on that device.
- Connect within five minutes. After expiration, click Refresh QR Code to generate a new one.
The QR code and pairing link contain one-time private credentials. Do not send them to other people or include them in public screenshots, logs, or issue reports.
Manage device permissions
Section titled “Manage device permissions”A new device can only View Library and View Tasks by default. Open the device details under Paired Devices to adjust these permissions independently:
| Scope | Available permissions |
|---|---|
| Library | View the Library. |
| Music | View the music library; update music favorites and playback state; manage music playlists and index members. |
| RSS | View feeds; update feed read state; manage public feeds; retrieve explicitly shared public feeds. |
| Tasks | View tasks; create tasks; control tasks. |
Grant only the permissions the device actually needs. Every active device must retain at least one permission.
Revoke a device
Section titled “Revoke a device”Device details show the most recent use time. If a device is lost, no longer used, or unknown:
- Open its details.
- Click Revoke Access.
- Confirm the revocation.
Old credentials become invalid immediately. The device can still be paired again later with a new QR code.
Common problems
Section titled “Common problems”| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| Remote Access unavailable | Confirm that Remote Access is enabled and at least one of LAN or Tailscale shows Available. |
| Cannot connect over LAN | Confirm that both devices are on the same private network, then check the port and Windows private-network firewall. |
| Tailscale unavailable | Check that Tailscale is installed, running, and signed in, and that Serve is enabled. |
| QR code expired | Click Refresh QR Code and pair with the new link within five minutes. |
| An action lacks permission | Check the Library, Music, RSS, or Tasks permissions in the paired device details. |
See Data and privacy for security guidance on credentials, backups, and screenshots.
